At this year's UBU Society Awards Ceremony, the Big Band Society scooped the Best Publicity and Best Event awards for our Epi Takeover event with Imperial College Big Band in January! Also, our President for 2007-08, Joshua Rosen, won an individual Gold Award (with distinction) for his contribution to the society. Nice one!
We have recently returned from our summer tour which this year saw both the Bristol University Jazz Orchestra and the Hornstars board canal boats to tour round the Birmingham area. The tour was extremely successful and saw us performing in and around the city to large crowds. We are very pleased to report that we raised £1000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association!
On Saturday 19th April the Hornstars travelled to Warwick for the National Concert Band Festival Finals and won a gold award for the third year in a row! The band played 'High Maintenance', 'They Can't Take That Away From Me' and 'Chicago', excerpts of which can be found here. Judge Ian Darrington described the band as having given an 'excellent exciting performance' and also awarded the Hornstars a further black award in acknowledgement of their hat-trick of golds. Nice one guys! Just click here for more info on the NCBF.
On Friday 25th January the Hornstars were invited to audition at Cardiff's Millennium Centre for ITV's Britain's Got Talent! The Hornstars played in front of a thousand strong audience, judges Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden and of course, Ant & Dec, getting through to the next stage of the competition!
